Built for the tent, not the room
The 4 L/day rating looks small next to a hardware-store compressor unit advertising 20 L or more, and comparing the two numbers directly is the most common mistake made on this page. They are not measured against the same job.
A compressor dehumidifier is designed to drag moisture out of a large open volume of air, and its rating is quoted under warm, very humid test conditions it will rarely see in your space. The Hydrone 5 uses a PWM rotary system aimed at a sealed tent of roughly 1.2 × 1.2 m (4×4) holding two or three plants, where the air volume is small, the moisture source is constant and predictable, and what you need is a steady, adjustable pull rather than a large intermittent one. Inside that envelope it will take a tent down to as low as 25% RH and hold a target; outside it, it is the wrong tool.
Ducting is the other half of the design. Dual 150 mm ports let you exhaust the warm dry air out of the tent, or run the unit closed-loop inside it, or pull from one space and discharge to another — something a free-standing room unit simply cannot do.

Straight answer: before buying any dehumidifier, check whether your extraction is simply too small or running too little. Air exchange removes moisture for far less money than a dehumidifier does, and a correctly sized
inline fan on a humidity trigger solves a good share of the humidity problems people bring to us. A dehumidifier earns its place when the space is sealed, when outside air is itself humid, or when you are running CO2 and cannot vent.

FAQ
Will it dry out my whole room?
No, and we would rather say so before you order. At 4 L/day it is sized for a sealed tent of roughly 1.2 × 1.2 m (4×4). In an open room it will run constantly and lose to the moisture coming in. For a room, a house or a subfloor you want ventilation or room-scale equipment, not this.
How does it compare to a 20 L/day compressor dehumidifier?
It does not, directly, and the ratings are not measured the same way. The compressor unit is built to pull a lot of water out of a large volume of air in bursts; the Hydrone 5 is built to hold a small sealed volume at a set humidity, quietly and continuously, with ducting and controller integration a room unit does not have. If your job is a tent, the litres-per-day comparison is the wrong way to choose.
Where does the water go?
Into a 2 L internal reservoir, which you empty, or straight out through a gravity drain hose if you have somewhere below the unit for it to run. On a tent producing steady moisture the drain hose is worth setting up — a 2 L tank on a 4 L/day unit needs attention roughly twice a day at full tilt.
Does it need a controller?
No. It has ten drying levels on the unit and runs standalone. A UIS controller adds VPD and humidity automation, app access, charts and alerts — and, more usefully, lets the dehumidifier and your extraction fan work to one set of targets instead of fighting each other.
Can I duct it?
Yes — dual 150 mm ports. Exhaust the dry air out of the tent, run it closed-loop inside, or pull from one space and discharge into another. Ducting the warm output out is usually the right call in a space that is already fighting heat.
Does it work in a cold space?
Within limits. Rated operating range is 7–35°C. Below that it is out of specification, and a cold space with a humidity problem is usually better served by heating and air exchange than by dehumidification — cold air holds less moisture to begin with, and the condensation you are seeing is a temperature problem wearing a humidity costume.
